"I came in with no idea what my options were, feeling quite overwhelmed. The first meeting was genuinely reassuring — everything was explained clearly and I left with a written summary I could actually refer to. The process took about three months in total and I was kept informed throughout."

"Handling a custody matter while trying to maintain a normal routine at work is genuinely difficult. Having someone else manage the filings and correspondence made a real difference. The team was easy to reach when I had questions. The process took a little longer than I had hoped, but I was told upfront that this was possible."

"I appreciated that nobody rushed me. The solicitor spent the first meeting just listening and asking questions, not jumping straight into what we should do. That approach helped me feel that the advice I received afterwards was actually suited to my situation. I would recommend starting with the consultation even if you are not sure you need legal support."

"The maintenance matter I brought to Damai Counsel had already been dragging on through informal negotiations that were going nowhere. Within a few months of proper representation, we had a signed agreement. The mediation route they suggested worked better than I expected."

"I used the complete package and found the end-to-end approach very helpful. I am not particularly good with paperwork and the idea of managing filings myself was daunting. Having the team handle all of that while keeping me updated at each stage took a significant weight off. Competent and respectful throughout."

"Confidentiality was my main concern going in — I needed to know that what I shared would not go any further. The solicitor addressed this very directly at the start of the first session. The discussion around custody was sensitive and I felt that it was handled with care throughout. I am glad I made the call."

The Situation

A client came to us uncertain whether to formalise an informal custody arrangement that had been working reasonably well. The other party had recently indicated they might seek changes. The client wanted to understand the legal position before anything escalated.

Our Approach

We began with a consultation to map out the current arrangement and what formalising it would involve. The client decided to proceed. We prepared a consent order that reflected the existing arrangement and submitted it through the appropriate court. No contested hearings were required.

The Outcome

Custody arrangement formalised within 10 weeks. Both parties agreed on the terms. The client expressed relief at having a clear, legally recognised arrangement in place rather than continuing with an informal understanding that felt increasingly uncertain.

"I had not realised how much easier things would feel once there was a proper document in place. The process was much calmer than I had imagined."
?

The Situation

A parent came in following a period of irregular maintenance payments. They had been managing without formal orders but the inconsistency was creating financial strain. They were unsure how to raise the issue without worsening an already tense co-parenting relationship.

Our Approach

We explored the maintenance order process and discussed what a reasonable figure would look like in the circumstances. After an initial exchange of correspondence facilitated by our office — which helped keep the tone constructive — both parties reached an agreed maintenance figure without needing a contested hearing.

The Outcome

A maintenance order was secured at an agreed amount within about eight weeks. Payments have been consistent since. The co-parenting relationship remained workable, which had been an important priority for the client from the start.

"The thing I most appreciated was that the solicitor helped me think through what I actually wanted before we did anything. That made a real difference."
